How to choose a social media scheduler
Most schedulers can put a post on a timeline. These are the questions that separate a tool you’ll keep using from one you’ll abandon.
1
Does it support the platforms you actually use?
Check not just the network, but the account type. Instagram scheduling usually requires a professional account, and no tool can publish to personal Facebook profiles. Make sure the formats you rely on — carousels, Reels, Shorts, video — are supported.
Ask: Can I connect every account type I post from?
2
How does it handle multiple accounts?
If you run more than one account on a platform, look at how they’re organised. Each account should have its own queue and settings, and it should be obvious which account a post is going to.
Ask: Can I connect two accounts on the same platform and keep them separate?
3
What happens when a post fails?
Every tool will occasionally fail to publish — tokens expire and platforms have outages. The difference is whether you find out. Look for clear failure states, the platform’s reason, automatic retries for temporary errors and a simple way to retry.
Ask: Will I be told — with a reason — if a post doesn’t go out?
4
Can you see the post before it’s published?
Each network displays posts differently and truncates text in different places. Platform-specific previews and validation catch problems while you’re writing instead of at publishing time.
Ask: Does it preview and validate posts per platform?
5
Does it fit how your team works?
If others help with your social media, you’ll want separate workspaces for brands or clients and roles that control who can change what.
Ask: Can I separate brands and control what teammates can do?
6
Is the pricing predictable?
Understand what you pay for — channels, users or posts — and what happens if you go over a limit. A free plan is the best way to test whether a tool suits you.
Ask: Can I try it properly for free before paying?
